Exams are not the last step

Passing your final professional examinations is a wonderful milestone, but it is not the final requirement to become a chartered accountant. According to ICAN, once you complete the examinations, you must complete 36 months of practice experience. Following this practical period, you will attend the ACA induction to receive your ACA certification. We cannot confirm whether this experience can overlap with your exam years, so you must check the official ICAN guidelines for start-date rules.

What we cannot confirm yet

There are a few administrative details you will need to verify directly with ICAN. The official Steps to ACA page published by ICAN mentions a fee of N30,000 (excluding bank charges) for AATWA document uploads, but we cannot confirm the current ACA induction fee. You must confirm any fees with ICAN on the live portal before paying or booking.

Additionally, the ICAN students hub features a notice titled "Reminder on the deadline for Practice Attachment," but the published page does not provide an extractable date. We also cannot confirm the specific mechanics of the practice attachment, approved employers, or how to fill out your logbook. Please confirm these details with ICAN Students Affairs or check the live students hub for the most current instructions.

Plan the timeline honestly

Because the 36 months of practice experience is a strict requirement, it is wise to view your qualification journey as a multi-year commitment. Focus on clearing your papers first, then turn your attention to the practical training. You can read more about the final exam stage in our ACA Professional guide, or review the broader picture in our article on how to become a chartered accountant in Nigeria. Take your time, plan your studies carefully, and remember that Learn is here to support your academic progress every step of the way.

Official facts stay on the ICAN guide.
