- Entry-level practice activities
- Perform procedures necessary to safely admit, transfer and/or discharge a client
- Provide and receive handoff of care (report) on assigned clients
- Delegate and supervise care of client provided by others (e.g., LPN/VN, assistive personnel, other RNs)
- Advocate for client rights and needs
- Prioritize the delivery of client care based on acuity
- Participate in performance improvement projects and quality improvement processes
- Identify and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members when providing client care (e.g., physical therapist, nutritionist, social worker)
- Receive, verify and implement health care provider orders
- Integrate advance directives into client plan of care
- Perform care for clients to support unbiased treatment and equal access to care, regardless of culture/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression
- Verify the client receives education and consents for care and procedures
- Provide education to clients and staff about client rights and responsibilities
- Assess the need for referrals and obtain necessary orders
- Initiate, evaluate and update client plan of care
- Maintain client confidentiality and privacy (e.g., social media, disclosure of information)
- Recognize limitations of self and others and utilize resources
- Report client conditions as required by law (e.g., abuse/neglect, communicable diseases)
