Topics with a public outline

Paper 1
A multiple-choice objective test lasting 1 hour and carrying 60 marks. It has three sections: A (Language), B (Literature), and C (Culture). Total 60 items in Paper 1 Objective test. Section B Literature has 22 items, Section C Culture has 8 items and Section A has 30 items.
Oral Literature
Consists of prose, poetry, and drama. There will be 3 set books covering these genres. One question will be set from each book, and candidates answer any one.
Composition/Letter Writing
Candidates write an essay of about 300 words. Topics include Narrative, Descriptive, Argumentative, Expository, Dialogue, Proverbial, and Letter Writing. Not more than 45 minutes should be spent on this question.
Written Literature
Consists of prose, poetry, and drama. There will be 3 set books covering these genres. One question will be set from each book, and candidates answer any one.

Hanyoyin tarbiyya, Girmama iyaye, Girmama na gaba, Girmama tsara, Da'a ga hukuma.

Paper 2

An essay test in three sections (A, B, C). It takes 2 hours and carries 100 marks. Candidates answer six questions: three from Section A, two from Section B, and one from Section C. Answers must be in official Hausa orthography using the appropriate metalanguage.

Sound System (Tsarin Sauti)

Candidates answer one question from two. Tests knowledge of consonants, vowels, syllable structure, production (place, manner, glottis status), syllable types (open, close), vowel production (length, diphthongs), and tone (high, low, falling).

Grammar (Nahawu)

Candidates answer one question from two. Covers word structure and formation (root, affix, prefix, infix, suffix), word classes (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, conjunction, specifier, quantifier, demonstrative, ideophone, diminutive, stabilizer, referential), grammatical categories (tense, aspect, gender, number), and sentence structure (subject, predicate, simple, complex, compound).

Traditional Beliefs and Practices

Al'adun da suka saba wa addini misali: camfi, bori, duba, tsibbu, maita, fatalwa, d.s.

Traditional Occupations (sana'o'in gargajiya)

Noma, Kira, Saka, Jima, Wanzanci, Kitso, Sassaka, Kiwo, Dukanci, Fawa, Su, Rini, Kasuwanci, Dillanci.

Traditional Medicine (Magungunan gargajiya)

Masu ba da maganin gargajiya. Misali: Magori, 'yar maiganye, bokaye, Wanzamai, d.s.
