This module delves into the growth and structure of trees, timber felling, and various conversion methods. You will also explore timber seasoning, properties of Nigerian timbers, and common timber defects. Students should be able to describe the growth and structure of a tree, explain the various methods of conversion, describe the various methods of seasoning timber, state the advantages and disadvantages of each method and identify the various types of Nigerian timbers and state their properties. Site visits to sawmills are useful.
