Check the basic NMCN requirements
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria publishes common entry requirements for nursing and midwifery education. They are an important first check, but they do not guarantee admission. Your institution may also apply programme-specific requirements, entrance assessments or admission timelines.
For the common requirement, NMCN states that an applicant should have five O-level credit passes in:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
NMCN says these credits must be obtained in no more than two sittings.
Which examination results does NMCN accept?
NMCN's programme-requirements page expressly lists:
- West African Examinations Council, commonly called WAEC
- National Examinations Council, commonly called NECO
- National Business and Technical Examinations Board, commonly called NABTEB
The page does not clearly explain whether results from two different examination bodies may be combined. If you plan to combine results, ask the institution to confirm acceptance in writing before you apply or pay.
Minimum age for Basic Nursing and Basic Midwifery
NMCN states that the minimum admission age for Basic Nursing and Basic Midwifery is 16.
This is a minimum, not a promise of admission. NMCN's page does not state a maximum age, and individual institutions may have additional lawful admission conditions. The statement also does not establish the age rule for every BNSc or post-basic route.
