Who needs NMCN registration?
NMCN registration is the stage at which a qualified nurse or midwife is entered into the relevant professional register. It follows training and the applicable professional qualifying examination.
Registration is different from:
- indexing, which records a student during training
- the professional examination, which is part of qualification
- a practising licence, which relates to current authority to practise

Basic registration for locally trained nurses and midwives
NMCN describes basic registration as the route for people who:
- completed General Nursing or Basic Midwifery education
- passed the NMCN Final Professional Qualifying Examination
NMCN's published procedure is closely connected to the training institution. It says registration forms are sent to schools with the released result file. The applicant completes the form, and the institution signs, stamps and forwards the application pack.
Follow the instructions issued with your own result. An old form or checklist from another school may no longer match the current process.
